New St Petersburg Governor Georgi Poltavchenko says his city development programme includes a skyscraper for the headquarters of Gazprom. At the same time, a clearly expressed popular opposition to the project would force him to scrap it.
Mr Poltavchenko was speaking on Wednesday at a ceremony to swear him in. His predecessor in the job Valentina Matviyenko is to become Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament. She successfully governed St Pete for eight years.
