SKA Makes Western Conference Finals

SKA St. Petersburg took its place in the KHL’s Western Conference final after completing a 4-0 series win over Severstal Cherepovets.
Regular season champion SKA won 4-2 on the road and now awaits either Dynamo Moscow or CSKA Moscow in the conference final.
“We are very happy to win these four games,” SKA coach Jukka Jalonen said after Tuesday’s victory.
“Today, Severstal played its best game, especially the first two periods. I must admit that we were in luck. The difference between the teams was that we converted our chances and were more effective in the attack.”
Former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin put the visitors in the lead on 10 minutes, but Denis Kazionov equalized at the end of the first period.
Diminutive forward Mikhail Anisin gave Severstal a 2-1 advantage with an accurate wrist shot early in the second before SKA stormed back to score three times in 10-minute stint.
Yuri Alexandrov, Alexander Kucheryavenko and Evgeny Artyukhin made it 4-2 allowing SKA to clinch the win.
In the capital, Dynamo drew closer to the finals with a 2-1 overtime home win over CSKA.
The reigning champion is now 3-1 up in the series and could seal a place in the conference final in game five Friday.
The overtime lasted just 38 seconds before Sergei Konkov tipped in a shot from Dynamo captain Yuri Babenko.
As in the three previous games, the team that scored the opener took the victory, as Sergei Soin finished in style a perfect combination by Dynamo players on 17 minutes.
Nikolay Prokhorkin leveled the score early in the second with a rebound goal after Dynamo goaltender Alexander Yeremenko lost the puck.
Earlier in the East, Traktor Chelyabinsk took a 3-0 lead in the series against Avangard Omsk, while Ak Bars Kazan cut the gap to Salavat Yulaev Ufa to 2-1.
