Nevsky Shipyard unveils new Spasatel Demidov salvage vessel in Russia

Russia-based Nevsky Shipyard has launched the new Spasatel Demidov vessel, which is designed for use in rescue and salvage operations.
Developed by Marine Engineering Bureau-Design, the vessel was built to the standards required under the state contract for the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency and for the direction of state contractor of Marine Transport Development Programme.
The vessel can provide technical support and assistance to ships in distress and also tow ships and other offshore structures in ice and in open water situations.
The ship's technical capabilities allow it to re-float submerged or reef-damaged vessels, pump out water from flooded compartments; search, rescue, evacuate and accommodate people; support underwater diving works up to a depth of 300m; and survey the sea bottom and damaged objects at depths of up to 1,000m.
In addition, Spasatel Demidov has the capability to extinguish floating objects that are on fire and burning fuel on water.
The 4mW capacity ship can also clean-up oil spills and oil products, including those having flashpoint below 60°C. It can move at maximum speeds of 15k.
Located near Saint-Petersburg in Schliesselburg, the Nevsky Shipyard builds various types of sea and river vessels. The shipyard's slipway can lift vessels as long as up to 140m and dock weight of up to 3,000t, for repairs.
