The Russian Federation is currently experiencing a real "boom" in the development of landscape architecture. Every year the Russian landscape architecture profession offers new designs and publishes professional journals and books. In 2011, the country accepted the Bologna educational system and opened landscape architectural training courses at bachelor, masters and PhD levels. In a growing economy, the landscape architectural profession has become a very specific demand.
For the first time in the history of the IFLA World Congresses, this 52nd Congress will be held on the territory of Russia with its extensive natural, semi-natural and man-made landscapes. The dramatic story of the region gave the international landscape architecture world amazing examples of revitalisation and reconstruction of ‘lost’ landscapes.
