On February 6, the VII St. Petersburg Festival of Old Music "Viva la musica antiqua!" was opened in the Hall of the Academic St. Petersburg Capella.
Traditionally the festival is held in February and comprises two concerts, where music of 10-18th centuries is played. The next concert is held on February 9. 13 ensembles and two performers from St. Petersburg, Gatchina, Petrodvorets, Vyborg, Petrozavodsk take part in the event. Participants are most various: here are professional musicians, amateur groups, groups established on the base of music schools. The main task of the festival is to popularize old music, introduce little-known and rarely performed works in original, not affected by modern arrangements. Festival opens you different old musical instruments with amazing names. Concerts are also supplemented by choreography performance, which presents revived dances of 16-17th centuries
