Mariinsky Solo Dancers Nominated for Benois de la Dance Award

The award ceremony will take place in Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre on April 26. At the ceremony, Ms. Zakharova will represent Opera de Paris where she has danced Bayadere during this season. Mr. Fadeyev has been nominated for John Neumeier's part in The Sounds of Empty Pages ballet to Alfred Schnitke's music. Alexei Ratmansky has been nominated for the best choreographer for the staging of the Flight to Budapest ballet. Recently, Mr. Ratmanov directed the Cinderella ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

The Benois de la Dance award was established by the International Choreography Union in Moscow in 1991. It was first awarded in the Bolshoi Theatre on April 29, 1992. The date was not incidental, being the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the great reformer of the art, observed internationally as The Day of Dance.
