Starting from the year of 1997 there works in Hermitage a program, “Hermitage Academy of Music”, called to restore music traditions of this imperial palace.
In connection, both in the Hermitage Theatre and in a number of hall-rooms of the museum, concerts will take place opened for a broad public.
“Music of the Big Hermitage” project is a part of the above program, the largest one in the museum’s history, because of her scale and long life on the part of “The Big Hermitage” reconstruction and development efforts. Its first concert, under the name “Vivat, Hermitage!”, is taking place today in the Georgian hall-room of the Winter Palace. Perform will - the State Hermitage orchestra under the conductorship of Saulius Sondetzkis and solists from Germany: Zilke Burt (soprano), Katrine Khildebrandt (alt), Ralph Petraush (tenor), Markus Flaif (bass), Bach-choir of the city of Bad-Khomburg.
The second concert will take place 5 July in the Winter Palace’s Big Cathedral. There, spiritual choir music of composers Bortnyansky and Galuppi, monets of Bach, the conductor is Lev Dunaev.
As the festival’s final, 6 July, “World Creation” oratorium of Joseph Haydne will be performed. This last masterpiece is very popular in Russia.
