Ilya Repin’s painting arrived from St. Petersburg in Moscow in a special climatic van with military convoy. The painting is called “Ceremonial meeting of the State Council on May 7, 1901 on the day of 100th anniversary”. This is the first time the painting left hall #54 of the State Russian Museum in where it was placed in solitude. The painting is to be demonstrated in the Georgian hall of the Moscow Kremlin. The canvas is gigantic: 877 by 400 cm, which is the size of an average apartment. It took three days to deliver the painting from St. Petersburg to Moscow. This is one of the most unusual exhibitions ever held by the State Archive of the Russian Federation – the exhibition is dedicated to the history of Russia in photographs, documents, paintings and household utensils borrowed from major Russian museums and archives. The insurance estimates the price of the painting at $11.000.000. The painting will be demonstrated first to members of the new Council of Federation of the Russian Federation, and then to all comers.
