December, 31 in the State Hermitage the solemn act of inclusion in an exposition of the museum the well-known French abstract artist Pierre Soulage’s picture was held
Pierre Soulage is well-known to the Petersburgers - in the summer of 2001 in the Nikolaev hall of the Hermitage his retrospective exhibition "Black light" was held. Dark and black tones always predominated in Soulage’s works, they were laid confidently, by very wide brushes. Nobody of Europeans resorted to black colour so considerably.
On the eve of new, 2003, the museum collection is replenished with a magnificent canvas painted by the largest French abstract artist Pierre Soulage.
As Michael Piotrovsky noticed, "the Hermitage from Ekaterina the Great's times collected and showed the modern art. As a rule, its choice was always right".
