The Festival of Latin American Culture will be held in St. Petersburg on May 12-22The Third Festival of Ibero-American Culture in Russia will be held in the city on the banks of the Neva from May 12 to May 22. As the project coordinator Herman Alberto Sespendez said in the International Press Center “300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg”, “there is something that makes Latin America closer to Russia than it may seem”. He also stressed that “cooperation in culture may take place only with financial support”. The Latin American party gave 70 thousand dollars for the festival, including 35 thousand dollars paid by the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture.
According to Marina Sen, artistic director of the festival, the festival includes various programs, from classical music “to jazz fireworks and a Carnival program”. The festival will be opened by a concert of the Brazilian pianist Lucia Lucas which will be held on May 12 in the Glazunov concert hall. Her disc will be recorded in the same concert hall. On May 15, Filipe Pinto Ribeiro, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatoire, will perform in the concert hall of Sheremetev’s Palace. The Sura choir from Costa Rica will sing ecclesiastical hymns, folk songs and songs written by Central American composers in Shuvalov’s Palace on May 16. Theater companies from Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Columbia will show their performances on the Smaller Stage of the Tovstonogov Drama Theater.
The festival will end with the concerts of Soncas, a unique jazz quintet from Costa Rica. Their jazz will sound in the Jazz Music Philharmonic Hall on May 21 and then in Papanin and Bada Boom clubs.
