On 2 June 2003 the exhibition dedicated to Peter I, the founder of the new capital of the Russian Empire opened in Antechamber, Nicholas Hall and Concert Hall. The Hermitage owns a unique assemblage of memorial items which were used by Peter himself or decorated his Kunstkammer and this collection is being shown in its entirety for the first time. In addition to paintings, graphics and decorative arts by Russian and European masters, there are Peter’s tools - reflecting his interest in fields such as dentistry, navigation and ivory turning - as well as over of his 300 clothes.
