The "Fortissimo" music awards ceremonies were held in the Summer Gardens in St. Petersburg on June 6. The Mariinsky Theatre soloist Vasily Gorello was named the 'best musical performer' and the 'musicology' prize was awarded to St. Petersburg Conservatory Professor Ekaterina Ruchevskaya. Moreover, a special award was created for the 'Petersburger in Moscow,' which went to Mariinsky Theatre conductor Alexander Titov who is working by invitation as a conductor at the the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. The musician of the year was selected based on the results of a social survey of listeners, other prize-winners and Rector of the St. Petersburg Conservatory Sergey Roldugin.
The "Fortissimo" music award was founded by the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. It is awarded annually.
