Today in Mariinsky theatre there will be sound a Spanish guitar

The Mariinsky theatre The symphony orchestra of Bilbao city (Spain) will be performing today in Mariinsky theatre. The concert is included into the XI International festival “The stars of the white nights”.

There will be sound an overture to the Huan Arragy’s opera “Lucky captives”, but also a K. Rodrigo’s concert for the guitar with orchestra “Aranhuez”. The guitar soloist is Pepe Romero. The concert will be finished by the first and second suite from the ballet “Dafins and Hloya”. “I don’t remember when the last time the guitar sounded in Mariinsky theatre”,- said the director of the theatre Valery Gergiyev.

The symphony orchestra Bilbao was established in 1922. In different time Arthur Rubinshtein, Vladimir Gorovets, Jeaque Tibaut, Mstislav Rostropovich, Moncerat Cabballie, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo played with this orchestra. Since 1999 Huanio Mena, famous by his interpretations of contemporary music, manage the orchestra.

The festival began on 5 May and will last on 5 August. During the festival we can enjoy the performance of the Israel philharmonic orchestra, the orchestra of Nations Philharmonic society and the International orchestra of the world. One of the most important arrangements is the presentation of Vagner’s “The Nibelung’s ring”. Juriy Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Alexander Torradze, James Livine and others will participate in. There will be perform international presentations of Staar’s, Raskatov’s, Kanchelli,s works.
