07.09.2003 11:43

The 11th International Festival “Palaces of St. Pertersburg” is held in the city on the Neva from June 27 to July 20. “This is a unique festival,” - said the conductor Konstantin Orbelyan. - “There are many beautiful and really unique palaces in St. Petersburg.” According to the conductor, seventeen concert programs and several fashion shows will be held in the best concerts halls and palaces of St. Petersburg and its environs.

According to Maria Safaryants, the artistic director of the festival, “a peculiar feature of this festival is that many musicians will be in St. Petersburg for the first time.” Among those who will come to St. Petersburg for the first time will be the Finnish Chamber Orchestra - one of the most famous orchestras in Europe, and the Chamber Choir of Yerevan. The program “Royal Music and Dances” will be presented by ensembles from the Baltic States, the Estonian Baroque Soloists and the ballet company Vilnius Camargo Troupe. They will demonstrate music, dances, instruments and costumes of Vivaldi’s epoch in the rooms of the Great Catherine Palace and Menshikov’s Palace. The Amati Quartet and Risonanza chamber orchestra will come from Italy. There will be also the famous Ensemble 415 and other musicians from France. Musicians from 11 countries will participate in the festival. Every year, new concert halls are opened for the “Palaces of St. Petersburg” festival. This year, one of the concerts will be in the White Room of the Peterhof Palace.

Let us remind you that the “Palaces of St. Petersburg” festival was founded in 1990 by the pianist and conductor Konstantin Orbelyan who has always appeared at the festival as a conductor and as Artistic Director of the State Chamber Orchestra of Russia.
