The Mariinsky Theater began performances at New York's Metropolitan Opera on July 8. The first performance was Prokofiev's opera 'Simeon Kotko', performances continue until the end of July.
'The last time we had such full-scale performances at the Metropolitan Opera was in 1998. This year we will show the US public Russian operas of the 19th and 20th centuries,' she said. Other productions will include Mussorgsky's 'Khovanshchina,' Rimsky-Korsakov's 'The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh,' Tchaikovsky's 'Yevgeny Onegin,' and Verdi's 'McBeth.' Moreover, the company will perform its latest opera premier Rubenstein's 'Demon.'
Practically all of the Mariinsky Theater's opera troupe will take part in the Metropolitan Opera performances including Olga Borodina, Mikhail Kit, Vladimir Ognovenko, Gegam Grigoryan, Sergey Aleksashin, Yekaterina Semenchuk, Tatiana Pavlovskaya, Vasily Gerello, other soloists and the theater's choir. MariinskyTheater Director Maestro Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Agrest and Mikhail Senkevich will conduct.
