The exhibition telling the remarkable story of the rise and fall of one of the most celebrated noble families in Russia - the Stroganoffs - opens in the Hermitage today. The history of the Stroganoff collection is the history of a family, covering hundreds of years, with predilections and passions, for private enjoyment and for education and diversion. There are masterpieces by Rembrandt, Botticelli, Giodano, Poussin and Watteeau, collections of icons, malachite vases, snuffboxes, superb furniture and works from classical antiquity and China
the exhibition will be on display from the 14th of October 2003 till the 25th of January 2004 in the Nicholas Hall of the State Hermitage.
