The Mariinsky Theatre opened its tour of Japan with a performance of "Yevgeni Onegin" on November 9. The tour is a part of the festival of Russian art organised in order to mark the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. According to the theatre's press office, "Yevgeni Onegin" will also be performed today and tomorrow.
Another famous opera "War and Peace" by Sergei Prokofiev will also be performed for the Japanese public. Three performances of Modest Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov" will complete the operatic tour.
Ballet performances will begin on November 23 and will include " The Swan Lake", "Romeo and Juliet", "Nutcracker" and "Cinderella".
