All are newly marked with signs in Russian and English. Presiding at the opening were Marko Ricci, Italy's consul general (Italy is current chair of the European Union), and Richard Wright, who heads the European Commission office in Russia, and, for the Russian side, Saint Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko. The opening ceremony included a concert of carillon music featuring Jo Haazen, director of the Mechelen (Belgium) Carillon School. After the concert, guests and journalists took a bus tour of the 'Trail.' Volksvagen is the general sponsor of European Union joint projects in honor of Saint Petersburg's 300th birthday.
