Two Major Cultural Events to Simultaneously take place In Tver
Veliki Novgorod, August 25 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Letyagin) - The Kinoglaz international festival of real cinema and television will be held in Tver from August 25-29. Documentary films made in the past three years will be shown at the cinema forum.
More than 50 film directors, producers and journalists from Russia, Belarus, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Kazakhstan, Canada, the USA, Sweden and other countries will participate in it.
"We want documentary films to regain the status they had before when documentary films made it possible to estimate many phenomena of life, and evoked a great public response," director of the festival Yuri Sukhodolsky said.
He said that 12 documentary films would participate in the Kinoglaz competition programme, and a competent international jury will estimate them. The jury will be headed by Genrikh Jushkiavicius, a prominent specialist in telecasting and the cinema industry and adviser to the UNESCO Director-General.
The best films will be chosen in four nominations - An Event, A Problem, The Camera Looks at the World, and A Fate.
As Mr. Sukhodolsky believes, the festival "will provide a broader choice for the Russian TV channels buying documentary films."
According to him, already next year representatives of the cinema and TV industry will be in a position to buy the rights to the films shown at the festival. Shows of the works of the best Russian documentary film makers and creative meetings with the authors of the films will be held within the festival.
The international forum The Way of the Russian Cultural Heritage is also opening in the city today.
As the press centre of the Regional administration reported, a discussion of the project to restore the historical and cultural landmarks in the populated areas situated on the Moscow - St. Petersburg highway is to be held within the forum.
The purpose of this project initiated by the fund Russian Heritage Highway Foundation (the USA) is to attract both Russian and foreign tourists to these towns and cities.
Delegations of the Moscow, Leningrad, Novgorod, and Tver Regions of Russia will participate in the forum.
