The eighth theatre festival of cameo productions featuring works by Fyodor Dostoyevsky opened on Wednesday in Staraya Russa, the Novgorod region, RIA Novosti was told at the Novgorod regional committee for culture, cinema and tourism and the Staraya Russa Dostoyevsky house-museum.
The theatre festival opens to mark the 183rd birth anniversary of the great writer (November 11, 1821).
On the first day of the festival, actors of Belii Teatr of the Fyodor Dostoyevsky literary-memorial museum in St Petersburg showed a performance called "Embrace and Cry".
On the following days of the festival, actors of Sobytie Theatre (St Petersburg), the Vologda cameo dramatic theatre and the Novgorod academic drama theatre will perform.
Audiences will also be offered mono-performances by Viktor Nikitin, an actor of the Moscow Drama Theatre on Perovskaya, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, and Vyacheslav Rybnikov, a member of the Union of Professional Actors of Estonia (Tallinn).
The festival is also scheduled to feature master classes by well-known actors Georgy Taratorkin and Alexei Loktev.
Theatre critics will be the festival's guests.
The ceremony of closing the eighth festival of cameo performances on the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, summing up of its results and awarding of winners, will take place on Sunday at the writer's Staraya Russa house-museum.
The theatre festival in Staraya Russa has been organised by the Union of Theatrical Workers of Russia and the administration of the Novgorod region.
