St Petersburg Days festival began in Japan Tuesday

st_petersburg_days_japan A St Petersburg Days festival is to be held in Japan from September 13 to 16. The purpose of the festival is to acquaint Russia's Far Eastern neighbour more widely with the city's potential.

Several tens of officials of the city administration and members of its cultural and business elite arrive at Japan's new international airport of Chubu near the city of Nagoya on Tuesday by a chartered flight. The delegation is led by Yuri Molchanov, Vice-Governor of St Petersburg.

At first, St Peterburg representatives will tour the EXPO-2005 on the outskirts of Nagoya, where a roundtable meeting, dedicated to the tourist and investment prospects of St Petersburg, will be held on Wednesday, September 14.

On Thursday, the delegation is to hold a meeting with businessmen in Tokyo. On September 16, a ceremony to present the potentialities of St Petersburg and Northwest Russia is to take place in Osaka, a business center in Japan's west.

The delegation members are also expected to tour the facilities of the automotive giant Toyota, whose assembly plant is currently under construction near St Peterbsurg.
