Residents of Russian North-West to participate in Nordic Council of Ministers’ exchange programs

nordic_council The Nordic Council of Ministers has announced receiving applications for participation in exchange programs for residents of North-West regions of Russia. Applications are accepted for enrollment in four programs: an exchange program for young politicians of North-West of Russia and countries of Northern Europe, program for state and municipal officers, NordProLink (Northern business contacts), and Sleipnir, a program for professionals in the spheres of culture and science, REGNUM correspondent reports referring to the Nordic Council of Ministers’ organization committee.

Residents of St. Petersburg, Republic of Karelia, as well as Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Pskov, Novgorod, and Kaliningrad regions are eligible to take part in the exchange programs. The training is performed in the North European countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, and three autonomous territories – Greenland, Faeroes and Aland Islands. Grants are distributed on a competitive basis and cover living, visa, transport expenses, and subsistence allowance of enrollees. The Nordic Council of Ministers governs intergovernmental cooperation of five countries of Northern Europe: Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, as well as three autonomous territories: the Greenland Island, and Faeroes and Aland Islands.

The main directions of cooperation of the Nordic Council of Ministers with the North-West region of the Russian Federation for the 2006-2008 are development of democracy and strengthening of the legal state, cooperation in the spheres of information technologies, cross-border cooperation, research and innovation, as well as in the fields of education, issues of social policies and healthcare, environment protection and sustainable development.
