The 9th International festival of modern dance OPEN LOOK 2007 started yesterday in St. Petersburg.
This year the festival has gathered together the world leading troupes working in contemporary dance style.
“Dancers from Sweden, the USA, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Cuba and Russia promise to hit the viewers’ fancy with avant-garde productions at the interfaces between classical and modern dance, martial arts, exotic plastique and whimsical performances” – a member of the festival organizing committee pointed out.
"The distinctive feature of these dancers is a curious synthesis of choreography, plastic arts and drama. In there projects, that amazed jury of contests and festivals from different countries, they use methods and means of classic and modern dance, yoga and acrobatic techniques," - the chief of the festival organizing committee said.
The festival events will run till July 14 on the stages of the Hermitage Theatre, the Music Hall Theatre, the Theatre for Young Spectators, and the exhibition complex Lenexpo.
"The main idea of the festival is the russian classic ballet integration in the world culture, preservation of the best traditions and the development of the choreographique art," - the chief of the festival organizing committee concluded.
