Filmmakers from more than 20 countries from different continents have gathered in St. Petersburg for the International Film Forum, timed to the 65-th anniversary of the Great Victory.
Head of the Russian government Vladimir Putin sent his message of greeting to the filmmakers. President of the Film Festival, People's Artist of Russia Alexei German, author of outstanding films about the war, admitted that despite his love for the film genre, he has a soft spot for newsreels which captured the true face of war heroes.
The solemn ceremony was hosted by celebrities of the Russian silver screen Anastasia Vertinskaya and Fyodor Bondarchuk. Taking part in the opening ceremony was the Russian Cinematography Orchestra and French singer Emma Shapplin.
Guests were treated to a premiere of the Russian-Polish film "Not now" directed by Valery Pendrakovsky and Yuri Rogozin.
