Russian pianist in Cultural Corner concert Sunday

Russian concert pianist, Pavel Egorov, appeared in recital on Sunday, March 25, at 3 p.m. as part of the Cultural Corner Concert Series at Pilgrim Congregational Church. Egorov graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in 1975. In 1974 he won the Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the International Schumann Competition in Zwickau, Germany. Since then he has performed extensively in Russia and abroad. In 1980, he was invited to teach at the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, where he is currently serving as professor of piano.
Egorov is a National Artist of the Russian Federation (the highest artistic title of Russia), an Honorary Member of the International Schumann Society, Dsseldorf, and an Honorary Member of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society. In 1989, he was awarded the International Schumann Prize.
During his career he has performed in more than 3,000 solo, symphonic and chamber concerts. He has made over 40 recordings for different Russian and International labels. Egorov is also an active musicologist. He has edited the seven-volume first Russian edition of Schumann’s complete piano works. He is also the editor of the Urtext edition of the “Well Tempered Clavier” by J.S. Bach, and the complete piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven.
