Elena Makarova will continue the work of Elena Obraztsova

Elena Makarova, the daughter of Elena Obraztsova, has become an advisor to the General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, Vladimir Kekhman.
As the news was announced, Elena Makarova commented: “My greatest goal in life at this stage is to continue my mother’s work. We talked about it, and I gave her my word that I would do everything in my power to make sure that the projects she treasured most would continue once she was gone. The Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Vocalists, and in particular the Elena Obraztsova International Academy of Music, gave her the strength to fight her illness, and she devoted herself to these projects until the very end.”
Vladimir Kekhman, the General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, said: “Elena Makarova knows the world of opera inside out — a gift from her mother — and is fluent in five languages. She will be involved in organizing the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s international programme, for which we already have some specific plans in place. In July, we will be holding a concert at the Mikhailovsky Theatre to commemorate Elena Obraztsova’s life, with performances by leading opera singers. Elena Makarova is going to oversee this project.”
• Elena Makarova is a mezzo-soprano. She is the daughter of Elena Obraztsova. She studied at the Maimonides State Classical Academy, leaving after her third year to study under Montserrat Caball. In 1996, Makarova moved to Barcelona. In 2011, she returned to Russia with her family.
• She is now enjoying a flourishing stage career. She has sung in Spain, Italy and France, and has performed on stage with Montserrat Caball among others. She took part in concert programmes alongside Elena Obraztsova on numerous occasions, traversing Russia from Krasnodar to Blagoveshchensk, and Europe from Latvia to Spain.
• Makarova took part in Elena Obraztsova’s master classes, gave lectures, and worked with young vocalists performing in a variety of languages and styles.
• Elena Makarova is married. Her husband is the Catalonian engineer Jordi Bosch Masa, who is currently in the process of becoming a naturalized Russian citizen. The couple have two children: Alexander, aged 26, and Elia, aged 4, who recently began ballet lessons.
